Landscaping tips for dog owners
Many popular landscaping plants, mulches and chemicals can cause diarrhea, vomiting and even heart failure in dogs, and dog owners should do some research before planting and landscaping, say veterinarian Tina Wismer, senior director of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, and Robert Poppenga, a professor of clinical veterinary toxicology. Dogs should have shady places in their yard and plenty of water, mushrooms can be toxic and should be removed, compost should be covered, fertilizers should be used only in areas that are inaccessible to dogs, and dogs should be kept off chemically treated grass.
